Blakemere's Weekly Blog and World Book Day - 07.03.2025

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:22pm

Another successful week here in Blakemere with lots of great things achieved.

English
We have continued to explore our  text in English – The Selfish Giant. We have continued to explore the image of the Giant's garden. We extended the noun phrases we created the previous week with realtive clauses to add more detail to them. We then used these descriptions to write a poem about the garden and then fianlly a setting description.

Maths
We have continued to  explore percentages this week. We have solved problems with percentages where the denominator was not 100 and then went on to find percentages of amounts. We have explored 25%, 50% and 75%, 10% and multiples of 10% and 1% and multiples of 1%. Next week, we shall combine all this learning to find any percentage of any amount.

Science

we have explored how light travels in a straught line from a light source. We looked at how the light reflects of an object and then into our eyes so that we are able to see it. We carried out a mini investigation where we had to shine a light through a row of holes so the light could be seen on the final piece of card. we explored what happened the holes weren't lined up.

World Book Day - 05.03.2025

On Wednesday, we had our World Book Day. We used the text from the Little People, Big Dreams series all about World Book Day. The children learnt all about the life and work of Neil Armstrong and then went on to produce a PowerPoint presentation about him, some of which I have included in this blog.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Lexi-May for winning the raffle ticket prize.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Who was the famous astronaut we explored on Wednesday?

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
