Blakemere's Weekly News

Date: 27th Nov 2022 @ 9:12am

Wow! Another busy week here in Blakemere! Time is flying by at the moment and the children are working so hard on all tasks set.

In English, this week, we have started our poetry unit, which is themed on the sea. We have been exploring lots of different poems about the sea and identifying the different poetic features that have been used within them. We have talked about the effect of using this different poetic features and figuarative language within poems.

In Maths, we have focused on division this week. The Year 5 children have concentrated on dividing a number by a one digit number and solving problems involving division whereas the Year 6 children have focused on long division. I have been incredibly impressed with how everyone has tackled this week.

On Friday afternoon, we took part in a virtual workshop delivered by the National Archives Musuem exploring different sources of information into the reasons why the Titanic sank. The children took an active role in the workshop asking and answering questions, exploring the resources and inferring information from them. They were also keen to share their learning. Great job Blakemere!

Within computing, we have been exploring collaborative working using different applications. This week we used an already made programme in Scratch where we reused the application and added in our own ideas. We discussed the importance of Copyright and how it is important to get the owner's permission before using someone else's work. This will link in nicely to our next unit on Creating a website.

Our week ended with the Year 5 children taking part in the Lantern Parade as part of the Town's Light Switch on.
