Cycling at The Velodrome, Manchester

Date: 2nd Feb 2017 @ 8:21pm

Last Friday, six extremely lucky children went on a trip to The Velodrome in Manchester to see the first day of The National Championships. During the morning, the time trials were held where the cyclists raced against the clock, two at a time. The speed and skill of the cyclists made it look very easy but we all knew it was very hard to go around the track on your own and keep your speed up!

We all enjoyed the 'Kieran' event. A  man led the cyclists around the track on a motorised bike to keep them at a certain pace. No one was allowed to change position or overtake during the laps behind the man. However, once he left the track, the cyclists raced against each other and went very fast. It was exciting as there was lots of overtaking and jostling for position. We were all cheering and shouting at this point.

Later on in the afternoon, we all got a little tired as it had been a long day. The journey home was very quiet as we were snoozing and enjoying the ride! A lovely day was had by all and I'm sure the day will inspire the children to take to their bikes once  the weather changes for the better!
