Delamere - Science and Skipping

Date: 17th Oct 2020 @ 9:17am

Hello and we hope that your weekend is off to a great start.

On Thursday this week we were so lucky to take part in a skipping workshop. For lots of us this was the first time that we had skipped and it was great to see the children trying something new. Not only did we learn the simple steps of how to skip but we also learnt some very important skills like good listening and having resillience. Well done everyone, we were very proud of you all. Each child has been given a skipping rope for them to keep in school so that they can continue to practise their skipping skills. I am sure that by the end of the year we will all be skipping superstars!

From next Friday,, in PE (weather permitting!), we will be having cricket lessons, another exciting activity to look forward to! So please make sure that you have your PE kit, including extra socks if you have tights on that day.

On Friday afternoon, we all headed out onto the school field to explore and investigate some microhabitats. The children had lots of fun and showed great care and respect for the world around them as they looked closely at the conditions of the different microhabitats. They described under the log as "dark, damp and dirty" a sentence that wouldn't look out of place in our English work this week! We found lots of minibeasts including woodlice, worms, slugs, millipedes, ants and spiders and the children loved using their magnifying glasses to look more closely at each one. We managed to capture the careful release of a millipede and woodlouse back to their microhabitat thanks to Franklin's fantatsic video skills.

In Maths we have began to count in 3s and it would be great if you could practise this skill at home. Maybe you could play a game using balled up socks and a box and for each ball of socks that you get into the box, you score 3 points. How many points can you score in 30 seconds? Don't forget to count in 3s!

I promised that I would attach a link to a game that we played this week, so here it is, 'Helicopter Rescue'. It is a great game for honing our place value and addition/subtraction skills.

We hope that the rest of your weekend is wonderful and look forward to lots more fun next week.
