Hello Delamere families,

I can't believe that we are already into October!  What a busy return to school we have had.  This week has been particularly busy with lots of fun learning taking place.

The children in Delamere class have thoroughly enjoyed learnng about the seven continents this week in our geography lesson and have had asked if I would put up the link to the continents song so they can sing it (as we aren't singing out loud in class at the moment - just lip synching) and practise at home too.  Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE  Be warned it is definitely an ear worm and you'll probably find yourself singing it as you are out and about too!

In English we have continued to use the book Look Up! to inspire our reading and writing.  On Monday we completed a guided read using Mae Jemison's dairy and looked for basic skills and features of a diary.  The on Tuesday and Wednesday we started to plan and write our own diary as if we were about to start a space mision ourselves.  We watched these clips for inspiration

Delamere class loved pretending they were zooming off into space and said it was exhilerating! (a new word they have learnt recently)  I can't wait to read the rest of their diaries which they're working on today and tomorrow.

In maths we have continued to partition two digit numbers in different ways and transferred our skills to using money too.  Perhaps you could get some 10p and 1p coins out so your child can explore partitioning too whilst playing this online game https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money  Also this week we have started to use place value charts.  Great sucesses all round - Well done children.

Collective Worships this week have shared messages about friendship and thankfulness and we also took a look at our class christian value of compassion.  We looked at how elephants are a tight knit community and show great compassion and loyalty to one another.  We watched a clip of a baby elephant being saved by it's herd.  A very moving moment and an excellent example of patience, resilience and compassion.

Thank you to all our families for sending their children prepared for school with their reading books, PE kits and snacks/water/lunches on the right days.  The children are becoming ioncreasingly independent and are learning to organise themselves quite well now and following the new routines.

Please continue to keep your eye on your emails, our blogs and the school facebook page for the latest updates and information.

Enjoy the rest of the week and enjoy some quality time together where possible.
