Delamere Class Blog 23.6.21

This week we have been embracing opportunities to 'Pause for Play' as part of National Sports Week initiative. We learned some new games to play outdoors and spent extra time running, racing and enjoying being outdoors.

We took our phonics lessons outside once again this week and enjoyed the opportunity to review our grapheme knowledge and put these into practise when spelling a range of homophones.  The children are definitely getting to grips with choosing the correct homophones.

In English this week we have introduced and explored the vocabulary for our new book The Last Wolf.  We looked at the difference between the words endangered and extinct and then explored animals that would fall in to each group.  We then researched some of the animals and created posters, spider maps and signs to share our knowledge.  We have some passionate animal lovers in Delamere class who really want to make a postivie difference to the animal world.  Some were quite shocked at how many animals are extinct.  Ask them to tell you about the Dodo, Gastric - Brooding Frog and Great Auk!

In Maths this week we have turned our attention to column addition.  We looked at the importance of starting by adding the ones column then the tens.  Lots of great practical exploration and quick mental maths skills came into play.  We have also continued to practise x2, 5 and 10 using https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and selecting times tables.  Perhaps your child could have a go at home alongside their weekly Numbots and Times Table Rockstars practise?

We have taken our Grayson Perry work to the next stage by creating print tiles using styrofoam.  We will be printing with these next week - the children are very keen to do this part of art!

Take care, stay safe.
