Good Morning!

Spring has sprung and there is definitely a feeling of sunnier days ahead.  Don't forget the clocks jump forward one hour this weekend and we can begin to make the most of the lighter, longer days.

There has definitely been some light shining bright in our classroom so far this week reflecting our biblical vision of 'Let your light shine before others' Matthew 5:16 Especially in the level of independence some of children are beginning to show.  We have been working hard on organising ourselves including gathering our belongings and keeping our work spaces tidy, supporting one another both in our work and play and also working hard on our class work.

In English we are reaching the end of writing our own adventure story in the style of Helen Ward's The Dragon Machine. With increasing independence the children have been building sentences using words magpied from the main text and our working wall.  Mrs Worstencroft is hoping to have a reading session with the children on Friday where the children read their own stories out loud using intonnation.

All reading books were changed on Wednesday.  Please can you make sure your child has both books and their diary every Wednesday and as this is when we check all diaries and reward the children for their successes and efforts.  If your child has changed book band then you will see a different colour band on their reading book. Remember daily reading is the key to reading success.  Just 10 minutes a day can make such a difference.  If your child is feeling tired on some days then perhaps think about alternating the reading by taking a page each and then try discussing the text and images. Keeping reading fun and enjoyable is important too, so try to find the right time that suits your child and even the right location.  Whether it be in their reading nook, a cosy sofa spot or even outdoors!

In maths this week we have been looking at doubling and mutliplication in 2s.  Lots of great mental recall of counting in 2s and using models and images too.  The children are also looking at counting in 5s and using the multiplication sign.

In history we explored the Tudor times and compared the differences between rich and poor.  When discussing Queen Elizabeth I we looked at the family tree of the monarchy and how one Tudor king was just 9 years old when he took the throne!

This week your child will have brought home their Bottle Moment which contains their hopes and dreams for coming out of the pandemic.  i hope you enjoy these and that the children put them somewhere safe so that they can take these and look at them with the brighter days ahead.

Our class Christian value is compassion and this week we have been looking at which bible stories help us to understand the acts of compassion.  We are in the process of creating our guide to compassion poster.  This will be shared via a blog in due course.  'The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love' Pslam 146:8

More parachute fun and lots of running, jumping and exercising in PE this week.  It was absolutley wonderful to see the children so energetic and happy taking part in our team games too.

Hope the sun shines this weekend and we can all spend a little time outdoors.

Take care, stay safe,

Mrs Williamson
