Delamere Weekly Blog - 06.02.26
Date: 6th Feb 2026 @ 4:10pm
We’ve had another busy, exciting week in Delamere full of new learning, creativity and curiosity. Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to in class.
English
This week we began our new fiction unit The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We explored the key vocabulary in the story, thought about what we already know (and would like to know!) about owls, and made predictions about what Plop the owl might be afraid of. The children are very excited to start reading our new book!
Maths
In Maths we started our new unit on Money. As real coins and notes aren’t used as often these days, there has been lots of new learning, but we are incredibly proud of how well the children have approached it.
If you have any coins or notes at home, it can be a fun activity to create a mini shop so your child can practise using real money to pay for different items.

History
In History, we worked as Historians, looking closely at a variety of clues to find out where the Great Fire happened, when it took place, and how it started. It was wonderful to see the children acting like detectives and using evidence to support their ideas.
Art
In Art, we explored our focus artist and his works. We then used our sketchbooks to record what we discovered. Our artist lived on a farm in Botswana and was inspired by the animals roaming freely on the Kalahari Desert, such as giraffes, antelope and wildebeest.
RE
In RE, we learned about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We used candles to explore how light makes us feel in the dark, found out why and how Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah, and then decorated our own candles to help us remember the key features of this special festival.
The children enjoyed playing the online dreidel game and asked if I could pop the link on here so they could play it at home.
PE
In PE, we practised our football skills with our new coach! The children showed great enthusiasm and energy.
Star Achievements
A big WELL DONE this week to Archie, Sophie and Leighton for their tremendous efforts on Numbots. And well done to all of the children who accessed Numbots this week—you are all making brilliant progress!
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
