Delamere Weekly Blog - 14.10.22

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 4:57pm

In English this week we have finished the story ‘Troll Swap’ and have now planned our very version, with Tom and Sharleen as our main characters. Tom is kind, compassionate and likes to give hugs and Sharleen is messy, mean and unkind. Today we used our plans to write the first part of our stories and we were so impressed with the effort that the children put in, using all of the mastery keys that we have explored over the last 5 weeks; noun phrases, the words ‘because’ and ‘and’, full stops, capital letters and fingers spaces. We can’t wait to see the completed stories next week!

Maths has been all about counting in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10. This is great for building children’s confidence with making links between numbers and spotting patterns and with practise can support their number fluency. This is something that you can practise at home counting pairs of shoes, socks or toys, counting up in fives as you high five each other or just counting steps of 2, 5, 10 or 3 as you go upstairs! Lots of opportunities to keep it fun but get lots of extra practise in at home.

In Science we met a Polar Bear sat in the desert and asked the question “Why is he so grumpy?” This brought about lots of interesting discussions and led us into thinking about what makes a good habitat. The children then used picture cards of animals and moved around the room to the most suitable habitat and then sorted and listed lots of different animals in different habitats such as a pond, field, woodland or the sea. Great scientific work!

Our Shared Reading this week has linked in well as we have been finding out about unusual sea creatures. The children are really building their skills of scanning and finding the correct information and finding the words that give clues in the questions.

This week in Numbots our big WELL DONE goes to Savannah, Adelaide and Toby!

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
