Delamere's Class Blog - 11.11.2022

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 4:03pm

We have had a great week in Delamere and it was wonderful to be able to share your children’s achievements with you during the parent consultations. Thank you for your time and continued support.

This week we have focussed our attentions on our History theme of Remembrance.  We have looked at the historical sources and asked and answered questions surrounding the soldiers that went to war during the first world war in 1914.  The children worked hard looking at black and white photographs showing soldiers marching to the trenches and spotted some wonderful evidence that this was an old photograph because they could see the clothes that the soldiers were wearing were very different to those worn by soldiers today.  We also looked at photographs of war memorials and discussed the significance of these then designed our own.

In Art we used watercolours to paint poppies focussing on letting the colours 'bleed' together in shades of pink, orange and red.  We hope that you enjoyed looking at these in the children's curriculum books.

Alongside our Remembrance activities the children have continued to make great progress in their Maths work, recalling number bonds to 10 and then 20 and using them to find related facts, e.g. if we know that 12 + 8 = 20, then we also know that 8 +12 = 20 and 20 – 8 = 12 and 20 – 12 = 8. Great concentration and lots of children used their problem solving and reasoning skills to sort calculations into a true or false table. Remember that Numbots is a great way to practise these basic Maths skills which form the basis of most of the Maths work that the children encounter. Well done to all of the children who regularly access Numbots and remember, the top prize is 30 raffle tickets!

Our Science took us on an imaginary trip to the beach! We got our rock shoes, sun hats and cameras ready to explore this wonderful habitat and look out for the animals and plants that live there. We saw so many wonderful creatures and interesting features and then sorted different living things by their habitat.

The children have worked really hard during our spelling this week. Thank you for all of your support with this. If indicated on your child’s spelling sheet, please don’t forget to practise both the root word and the word endings, e.g. big, bigger and biggest, for each word.

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Toby, Danielle and Adelaide for winning the  Numbots certificates and Poppy and Olivia for being Excellent Examples.

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to lots more fun and learning next week.
