Delamere's Class Blog - 14.6.2024

Date: 14th Jun 2024 @ 3:45pm

It has been a very exciting week in Delamere as we have welcomed Mrs Williamson back into class. We look forward to seeing her a little more over the coming weeks.

In English this week we have had a focus on grammar looking at different sentence types (statements, exclamations, commands and questions) and subordinating conjunctions (when, if, that and because). Lots of great sorting, matching and sentence writing took place and we are really proud of the children’s efforts.

In Maths we have continued our learning about fractions and are now growing in confidence in finding and recognising both a half and a quarter of a shape, amount or object. Next week we will explore finding a third. I wonder if your child can talk you through how we write the notation of a half and a quarter?

In PSHE we had lots of fun watching a video of Dooley the alien as he visited Earth to find out about how humans get and use money. We then looked at a variety of coins that we use in the UK and researched currencies in other countries. We had a super PE session this week practising our hockey skills and Miss Pile was really pleased with our behaviour. In Shared Reading we got to the end of our story ‘The Glassmaker’s Daughter’ and we explored different ways to make the body and accessories of our fire engine models in DT. We ended the week on a high with a fantastic Virtual Author Visit with none other than CBeebies legend Andy Day and bestselling illustrator Steve Lenton! It was a fantastic magical dino-tastic adventure and we got to sing, draw, laugh and learn about some incredible dinosaurs. We also got to hear about Andy's new book series Dino Dad, illustrated by Steven: a laugh-out-loud adventure about Ruby and her dinosaur expert dad who has a magic ammonite shell which takes them to an incredible island, full of dinosaurs. I’ll let the children tell you about the Pop Pop dance! We were so excited when we received a parcel at the end of the day which was the book ‘Dino Dad’! We cannot wait to get started reading it.

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Lily, Tyler and Daisy for being top of the TTRS leader board this week and to Daisy for being Numbots champion. Fantastic work and 30 raffle tickets are in the pot for you all.

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to lots more fun and learning next week.
