Delamere's Week - 18.9.2020

Date: 19th Sep 2020 @ 10:56pm

Well, here we are at the end of another busy week in Delamere and we have been very proud of how the children welcomed both Mrs Winder and Mrs Marsh as their class teachers on Tuesday and Wednesday. They looked after them so well and confidently helped them out with the new routines within school. Thank you Delamere!

This week we have continued to learn all about the fantastic Mae Jemison, and on Thursday the children each completed an 'All About Mae' information sheet sharing lots of interesting facts that we have learnt about her so far. We were really impressed that every single person was able to share a fact and lots of us joined our ideas together using the word 'and'. On Friday, we looked back at the class book 'Look Up!' and saw that the main character Rocket had made a space rocket out of a cardboard box. We challenged the children to think about what they would need to make their own rocket. This was the perfect opportunity to practise our work on plurals. Would you need one box or two boxes? How many triangles would your rocket need? Maybe you could use some cardboard tubes. What could you use for the buttons? We spotted lots of plural words and learnt the rule for when to add -s and when to add -es to a noun to make it into a plural. I wonder if your child can remember the rule? Check out the power point below for a recap. Maybe you could go on an object hunt around your house finding singular objects and making the word plural, e.g. sock/socks, brush/brushes.

In Maths this week we have carried on partitioning numbers into tens and ones and once again, we have been super impressed with Delamere's Maths skills. With lots of practise using practical resources such as dienes blocks and ten frames, the children are becoming really confident in this skill. Some of us have even begun to move onto partitioning in different ways, such as 43 is 40 tens and 3 ones, but can also be 30 tens and 13 ones! We can't wait to see what great things we will achieve next week!

Jane Goodall, a famous Scientist who studied Chimpanzees in their natural habitats, was the focus of Science this week and our research led to the children producing some very interesting fact sheets. It was great to see so many children applying their writing skills in this subject area. We finished off the week with a very warm PE session working on our bat and ball skills.

Thank you for sending reading books and records in on Thursday. As our previous blog stated, we will return to the normal day of Tuesday for book changing next week.

Key dates for the upcoming week:

Wednesday 23rd September: Skipping Workshops for all classes

Thursday 24th September: Flu Vaccinations (letters have been sent home)

Well done Delamere for another jam packed week! We look forward to seeing you on Monday.
