Delamere's Weekly Blog - 05.06.26
Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 2:37pm
What a great start back after half term! It has been wonderful to see the children settling straight back into their learning with enthusiasm and confidence. This week, we have been thinking about letting our own lights shine before others – celebrating our talents and supporting one another to shine brightly.
In Maths, we have continued our work on fractions, focusing on finding quarters and thirds of groups of objects, shapes and numbers. We learned a fantastic trick to find a quarter – first halve the amount, then halve it again! We also used bar models to help us visualise our thinking, which proved to be a really useful tool.
In English, we have had a reading focus, exploring our Great Fire of London text. We began by discussing new vocabulary before practising our skills of skimming and scanning to find answers to questions. We also worked hard on our inference skills, particularly when thinking about why people fled the city.
In DT, we were very excited to begin designing our own owl puppets. It has been brilliant to see such a range of creative and imaginative designs. Next, we will practise making templates and explore different joining techniques before moving on to creating our final puppets.
This week has also been Interfaith Week, where we have been celebrating diversity and taking part in the Winsford Education Partnership project, Faith Through Art. As part of this, Delamere class has been exploring Islam and the importance of light within Islamic art. The children have had a wonderful week creating Islamic tiles, symmetrical bookmarks and beautiful lanterns. It has been fantastic to hear them confidently using words such as infinite and geometric and linking these ideas to the belief that God's love is infinite and never ending and that light represents hope and joy. Great work, Delamere!
Water Safety Learning
Before half term the Canal and River Trust’ delivered a very informative assembly about water safety. We have continued this work this week learning all about how to stay safe near water. We talked about the important message: “Be prepared, not scared!”
We shared what we should do if we see someone in trouble in the water. We remembered to:
- Shout for help to get an adult’s attention
- Call 999 if needed
- Never go into the water ourselves to try and rescue them
Instead, we learned how to help safely by encouraging the person to lie on their back and float like a star until help arrives
The children did a fantastic job remembering these important safety rules and talking about how to help keep themselves and others safe.
We have attached a link below with useful information for parents and carers, which we strongly encourage you to take a look at.
Our PE Stars this week are Kelsey and Archie for their fantastic underarm and overarm throwing. Archie even took it a step further and successfully landed the ball in Mr Burgess’s special tube challenge – throwing a ping pong ball into a very narrow tube. What an amazing achievement!
Well done to our Numbot winners this week: Leighton, Archie and Kelsey. And now for our first ever TTRS winners… drum roll please… Archie, Kora and Nellie! Fantastic work to you all – I wonder who will win next week?
PE Change of day
A quick note that PE kits will be needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the week beginning 15th June 2026, due to a change in our PE slot.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another week full of fun and learning.
