Delamere's Weekly Blog - 09.10.25

What a brilliant week we have had in Delamere!
Maths
This week in Maths, we’ve been deepening our understanding of tens and ones. The children have worked incredibly hard to write 2-digit numbers in expanded form, such as:
  • 28 = 20 + 8
We then explored flexible partitioning, which challenged us to think systematically and spot patterns. We used the number 84 to create a sequence by adjusting the tens one step at a time:
  • 84 = 80 + 4
  • 84 = 70 + 14
  • 84 = 60 + 24
  • 84 = 50 + 34
  • …and so on!
This activity really showcased the children’s logical thinking and resilience. We finished the week by matching number sentences to 2-digit numbers, and everyone gave it their best effort. We’re so proud of how confident and curious the class has become with place value!

English
In English, we reached the end of our book and had a thoughtful discussion about whether Rocket would achieve her dream. The children shared some brilliant ideas and showed great empathy for the character.
We also focused on improving our writing by remembering to:
  • Use capital letters and full stops
  • Include the word ‘and’ to extend our sentences
  • Add expanded noun phrases to make our writing more descriptive
The progress has been amazing! We’ve seen some beautifully written sentences and imaginative ideas. We can’t wait to see what they write next week!

Art
In Art, we took inspiration from nature and completed observational drawings of leaves. The children looked closely at the markings, shapes, and textures, using both pencil and pen to capture the details.
Their focus and creativity were outstanding — we were blown away by the care and attention they gave to their work!

PSHCE
This week was all about democracy! We held our school councillor elections, and the children voted thoughtfully and respectfully.
🎉 Congratulations to Molly and Nellie — your classmates believe in you, and we’re excited to see you represent our class!

PE
In PE, we practised side rolls and forward rolls, building our coordination and confidence. In cricket, we worked on overarm throwing and aiming at a target.
Special shout-outs to Freya and Max for their powerful and accurate throws — fantastic effort!

RE
In RE, we created posters about what we know and believe about God, and then used the iPads to research what Jewish people believe.
The children used the technology respectfully and responsibly, and their curiosity led to some great discoveries. Next week, we’ll be recording and sharing what we’ve learned.

History
We explored images from different periods of time when each Queen reigned, focusing on changes in transport and technology.
The children made thoughtful observations and began comparing how life evolved across different reigns.

We want to say a huge well done to everyone who has:
  • Read at home
  • Practised their spellings
  • Played on Numbots to build their maths skills
🏅 Special congratulations to Natan, Archie and Leighton who earned certificates this week — your hard work really stood out!
We’re so proud of the whole class for their enthusiasm, kindness, and determination. You make Team Delamere a joy to be part of!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we’re looking forward to more fun and learning next week.
