Delamere's Weekly Blog - 13.02.26
Date: 13th Feb 2026 @ 1:32pm
Well, that was a very quick half term – it feels like time has flown by since Christmas! We have worked hard, not given up, shown compassion and even welcomed a new friend into our class. Well done, Delamere – you are all super stars!
Children’s Mental Health Week
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we created our own “places” by designing desert island maps. The children then added things they would want with them to make their perfect place. These included family members, pets, homes, boats, hot tubs, footballs and more. The maps were gorgeous, and the children really enjoyed discussing the importance of having a place where we feel safe, loved and accepted for who we are.
We also celebrated our outfits and talked about how they made us feel. Some children came in fluffy pyjamas because they felt safe, warm and cosy, while another wore her pink, sparkly dress because it made her happy when it swished. So lovely!
We completed an activity called Paint Palette, where children created a palette of emotions and added colours to match the feelings in their minds. They chose four emotions they felt often—some chose all positive feelings, while others had a thoughtful mix.
English
In English, we focused on expanded noun phrases and the role of the comma. We used these skills to write descriptions of Plop, building on the mastery keys of and, because and but. Later in the week, we explored adverbs to describe how owls move, inclduing swifty, gracefully and gently.
Maths
In Maths, we finished our unit on money. We have been really impressed with how the children applied lots of their prior learning to this work. After the half term break, we will move on to Multiplication and Division.
History
In History this week, we listened to a retelling of the whole story of the Great Fire of London. Using our knowledge organisers, we then sequenced the key events to help us understand what happened and when. After that, we took part in some role play! We pretended to be the houses of London, showing how the strong wind blew the flames from house to house. We also acted out how fire hooks and dynamite were used to create a fire break and stop the fire from spreading even further. It was lots of fun and helped us understand the event in a really memorable way!
Thank You
It was wonderful to catch up with so many of you at our parent consultations this week. It was a pleasure to talk with you about your amazing children—you have so much to be proud of.
Celebrations
Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Grace, Leighton and Kora for topping the Numbots leaderboard! And well done to everyone who has been reading at home—we absolutely love seeing what you’re reading, especially when we get to listen!
Have a fabulous half term, and we will see you for more fun and learning on Monday 23rd February.
