Another hot week!

In English we have been looking at our poetry unit, exploring poetry about owls, badgers, foxes and hedgehogs. We have been thinking about adventurous vocabulary and used lots of interesting words to create our own hedgehog poems. Words like ‘scurried’, snuffling’, and ‘slimy snails’ helped to add interest and create clear imagery of the hedgehog’s journey. We were super impressed with all of the children’s work, with some children even using alliteration to up-level their work.

In Maths we have been practising how we can use our number bonds within ten (3+4=7) to help us work out more difficult calculations (13+4=17 or 3+14=17).

On Thursday during our Spirituality session, we gathered under a shady tree and practised being calm and finding our inner stillness. We observed still water and held onto cold, shiny pebbles. During our session we thought about the bible verse “Be still and know that I am God” and contemplated ways that we could feel that God is with us. Ideas shared included “in the cool breeze’, ‘in the warm sun on my skin’ and ‘in the bird singing in the tree’. It was at just this moment that a large, green caterpillar fell out of the tree onto Belle’s knee! We all thought this was very exciting, with some of us thinking ‘it is a sign that God is with us’ and ‘that our world is beautiful’.

In Science we have begun to learn about Animals including Humans and recapped the different animal groups from our learning in Year 1, particularly what a mammal is. We also thought about which animal offspring look like their adult, sorting pictures into the correct groups. Lots of discussion was generated and we really had our thinking hats on.

A super sized WELL DONE goes to Toby this week who was top of the leader board for both TTRS and Numbots! He happily sprinkled 60 raffle tickets into our golden tin ready for next week!

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
