Hello everyone!

We’ve had a wonderful week in Year 2!

English

This week, we began our first poetry unit by exploring the well-known poem The Owl and the Pussycat. We’ve been absolutely amazed by how beautifully the children can recite the whole poem with expression and confidence! Today, we delved into some of the poem’s interesting vocabulary, such as shilling, pea-green, and charmingly, and had a fun discussion about the nonsense word runcible. The children then got creative and wrote some fantastic sentences using their new vocabulary—what a brilliant start to our poetry unit!

Maths

Our place value work continued as we compared 2-digit numbers, identified the greatest and smallest numbers, and ordered them by size. We learned how to look at the tens digit first, then the ones, to help us decide the correct order. We also had lots of fun using our GIANT number line and 100 squares to support our learning. Next week, we’ll be counting in steps of 2, 5, and 10—we can’t wait!

RE

In RE, we explored how Jewish people show their love for God in different ways. We listened to the Shema, a special Jewish prayer, and carefully discussed the meaning behind each line. Using what we learned, we created our own class prayer filled with thoughtful ideas about what we’d like to remember each day.

History

We became Historians this week by studying a range of images—photographs and paintings—and discovering what facts they revealed about three queens. We talked about the word evidence and how historians use clues to learn about the past. The children showed fantastic detective skills!

Art

In Art, we experimented with wax resist techniques and completed observational drawings and watercolour paintings of beautiful Autumn leaves. The results were stunning and really captured the season’s colours and textures.

Celebrations & Reminders

A huge well done to everyone who completed their home learning this week! We’ve seen a brilliant increase in recorded home reading and lots of children bringing in their spelling practice—thank you, grown-ups, for your continued support.

🎉 Special shout-out to our Numbots superstars:
Archie, Kora, and Nellie – you’ve earned the most coins this week!

We’ve noticed a slight drop in the number of children accessing Numbots, so please do encourage your child to log in regularly to keep building those key number skills. Remember, if you access Numbots at all during the week, you’ll earn a sticker to take home and show your grown-ups!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
