Delamere's Weekly Blog -18.11.22

Is it just us or is time just flying at the moment?! Another super busy week in Delamere with some great achievements.

In English the children have loved inventing their very own nonsense poems in the style of Edward Lear and we have to say we have been really impressed with the efforts, not only in creating their poems, but performing them and presenting them for our class display. As soon as this is complete we will post some photos so keep your eyes peeled!

Maths was all about addition this week, finding related numbers facts and using number bonds to 10 to find number bonds to 100. After lots of practise and practical exploration we have got it! I wonder if you can tell your grown-ups how you can use the number bond 2 + 8 = 10 to find a number bond to 100?

In History this week we completed our learning about Remembrance Day and hearing some of the children sharing how they remembered at the weekend was a real joy. We have now started our learning about Florence Nightingale and are looking forward to using our historical skills to find out more.

In Science we thought about habitats that are further away and challenges ourselves to think about and explain whether certain animals would suit certain habitats and if not, why not. We sorted a variety of animals into different habitats and played some card games to reinforce our learning.

As part of Parliament week we have discussed the importance of one of our British Values, Democracy, thinking about the idea of fairness and how voting is a part of our culture. Today we had a democratic vote to see what our new table names could be and Minibeasts got the most votes. We talked about how it felt when the thing that you vote for didn't get he most votes and these feelings are natural when we feel strongly about something but there will usually be another chance to vote again soon, in this case we will be voting for new table names in the Spring Term.

Swimming saw some huge achievements this week and our 3 Excellent Examples have gone to Lucas, Tyler and Spencer D for this. Our big WELL DONE also goes to Danielle, Spencer D and Olivia who have topped the Numbots leader board this week. Keep practising Delamere as these skills are so important to support your confidence in your Maths work and, remember, raffle tickets galore are given to our winners.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to more fun and learning next week.
