Delamere's Weekly Blog - 20.9.2024

Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 3:28pm

We have had yet another very productive week in Delamere and have been blessed with some beautiful sunny afternoons.

In English we continued to explore the story ‘Troll Swap’ and the children used their amazing imaginations to create their very own trolls. There was some lovely noun phrases used but I don’t think I’d like to meet some of them as they sound very cheeky! We then met the next character in our story, Tabitha Lumpit, who is not like other girls. She is loud and loopy and loves to jump in muddy puddles and pick her nose. We put ourselves in the role of her parents and wrote thought bubbles for what they were thinking about their daughter. Some great ideas and super sentences – well done Delamere!

In Maths we continued to work on representing tens and ones in 2-digit numbers. We even completed a problem solving activity to see how many 2-digit numbers we could make with the number cards 6, 3 and 8. Lots of good discussion and our knowledge of 2-digit numbers is definitely growing.

In RE we completed our Holy Spirit headbands, in PSHE we spent some more time practising tying shoe laces (thank you to all who brought shoes in! Don’t forget to practise at home), in Art we used natural objects to create images and in Science we learned about the famous biologist Jane Goodall. With Cricket and Dance in PE, all in all it has been a jam packed week!

Your children should now have their log in details for Numbots which forms an important part of their home learning, along with reading and spelling practise. Please do shout if you have any problems logging on or working your way through the games. We can already see that some of you have been accessing it this week and each week we will be awarding certificates for the child who has spent the most minutes on Numbots and the child who has earned the most coins. Some weeks we may introduce extra certificates for particular skills such as number bonds to 10, but we will let the children know when this is happening.

Spellings are attached and a paper copy will come home next week. We would love to see some of your spelling practise and will put 20 raffle tickets into the tin for anyone who brings theirs in to show us.

Thank you also for the great engagement with our new reading system! It has been lovely to read the comments and see some gorgeous photos of your children enjoying books. Don’t forget to bring your reading folders in every day, but especially on a Monday ready for book change day.

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to lots more fun and learning next week.
