Year 2 Weekly Blog – Team Delamere
What a jam-packed week we have had with lots of fun and learning along the way!
English
We’ve started our new story 'Troll Swap' and the children loved Mrs Williamson's deeley boppers! We began by predicting the text and then we explored expanded noun phrases, which add extra detail, such as: “spiky, green hair all over his head” and “large, blue eyes as round as saucers.” The children then used these skills to write a character description for Timothy. Fantastic creativity!
Maths
This week we continued our Addition and Subtraction unit. We used our number bonds to 10 to help us find number bonds to 100 (e.g., if we know 6 + 4 = 10, then 60 + 40 = 100).
We then moved on to adding and subtracting ones, including calculations with three numbers like 2 + 4 + 3 = 9.
Towards the end of the week, we explored making 10 to add two numbers when crossing the 10 barrier (e.g., 7 + 4 → 7 + 3 = 10, then add 1 to make 11). This is a tricky concept, so we kept it very practical using resources and number facts. It’s a great skill for solving calculations efficiently!

RE
We learned about the important Jewish story of Moses and his sister Miriam, who saved his life. We retold the story using props and created pictures of the River Nile with Moses and Miriam to help us remember the details.
Geography
We discovered that the Equator is an invisible line around the globe. We marked it on maps and used atlases to locate countries along the equator.
Science
We explored the question: Would an elephant survive in the Arctic? We discussed what conditions and habitats elephants need. Molly impressed us all by explaining that elephants are herbivores, so they would struggle in the Arctic because there are no plants or grass to eat. Super thinking!
History
We completed our final task in the Three Queens unit and revisited our big question: Which Queen reigned at the best time?
The children gave fantastic reasons, such as:
The children gave fantastic reasons, such as:
- “Queen Elizabeth II because people could travel around the world on aeroplanes.”
- “Queen Victoria because lots more people could travel to the seaside by train.”
-
“Queen Elizabeth I because she proved that a woman could lead their country.”We’ve loved learning about these amazing leaders and the different times that they reigned!
Numobts Shout-Out
Congratulations to our Numbots winners this week: Archie and Leighton!
A gentle reminder: Numbots is part of your child’s home learning. We’ve noticed a dip in usage this week— come on Delamere, let’s see some new names on the leaderboard next time!

PE Kit Reminder
As the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child has joggers in their PE kit and socks if tights are worn to school. Children can wear their school jumper or cardigan when doing PE outside.
