Delamere's Weekly Blog - 22.4.2022

Date: 22nd Apr 2022 @ 12:54pm

How lovely it is to all be back together and the sun has even made an appearance!

It has been all things dragon this week as we have started to look at our new book The Dragon Machine. Please don’t read the whole story at home as we are going to be unpicking the book over the next few weeks. This morning we got a shock when we saw a photo of our classroom with a dragon in it! We decided that we needed to make some posters to warn others of the dragons and tried our hardest to include words with the prefix un-, such as unbelievable and unsafe. It is great to see the children so engaged and excited and we can’t wait to see how their learning unfolds (see what I did there!) over the next few weeks.

In Maths this week we have been continuing our learning about multiplication and the children are getting so confident in counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10 and representing these using mathematical equations. Next week we will begin our home learning Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) so watch this space!

Delamere have really enjoyed celebrating Earth Day today and have been exploring what a carbon footprint is and how we can make sure that we have the smallest carbon footprint possible. We drew around our own feet and made posters to show how we can reduce our carbon footprints and I think that you will agree they look great.

Our book vote today was between two beautiful stories which celebrate our relationship with our wonderful planet. We couldn’t just read one though so we ended up reading both! Click on the links below to watch.

Following on from our learning about Earth Day, we began our Science unit of plants by making our own mini greenhouses, planting a broad bean and then also planting a variety of beans and placing them in different places and in different conditions to see how they grow. I wonder which beans will be the most successful! The cupboard with no water, the cupboard with water, the windowsill with water, the windowsill with no water, the fridge with water. We will keep you up to date with our beans’ progress in our upcoming blogs.

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Alyssia, Kira and … who are our excellent examples for this week and Ava, Keiya and Kobe who have won our Numbots certificates this week!

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you for more fun and learning next week.
