Another awesome week in Delamere bursting with energy, creativity and effort!
English
This week we began our new poetry unit, Night Sounds, and it has been so much fun diving into the gorgeous new vocabulary. We had lots of discussions about the words and phrases we liked (and didn’t like!) and explored why they made us feel a certain way. Our learning culminated in writing our own poems titled Questions and Night. The children produced some truly beautiful pieces — a wonderful effort from everyone!
Maths
Lots of super Maths work has taken place this week. We are now using a variety of methods for addition and subtraction with increasing confidence. We even practised using the column method to add two 2‑digit numbers that cross the ten barrier—and we were so impressed with how well the children did! This new method means we can now tackle more challenging calculations. Well done, Year 2!
History
We began our new unit on The Great Fire of London, and the excitement is already building! This week, we explored maps of London—one from the 17th century and one from modern day—and noticed how much bigger London is now. Next week, we’ll be looking closely at the key differences between 17th‑century London and London today, especially buildings, transport and what the city looks like at night. Great work, Delamere!
Art
In Art, we experimented with pencil pressure, discovering how pressing harder creates more definite marks.
We used these skills to create freeze‑frame observational drawings of natural objects. The children showed great care and attention to detail.

PSHCE
Our focus this week was “Practice Makes Perfect.” We talked about goals we would like to set for ourselves and how practising helps us improve. Some children are aiming to develop their Maradona football skills, while others want to work on their bar skills in gymnastics.
They even said they’d help me with my goal of improving my singing—offering encouragement and motivation!

PE
We continued developing our football skills, practising using the inside of our foot to control and pass the ball. A special shout‑out to Robyn and Freya for their fantastic effort. Coby also showed significant progress thanks to his excellent listening and taking onboard feedback from the coaches. Brilliant teamwork!
Celebrations
A huge well done to this week's Numbots leaderboard toppers:
⭐ Leighton
⭐ Archie
⭐ Kora
We’ve noticed more children logging in recently, which is fantastic! Several children asked for passwords, so we have resent these home today. Please let us know if you would like us to resend your child's login details.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we’re looking forward to even more fun and learning next week.
