Delamere's Weekly Blog - 24.04.26

Date: 24th Apr 2026 @ 3:41pm

We’ve had a wonderful first week back after the Easter holidays and the lovely sunny weather has put a smile on everyone’s faces!

In PE, we kicked off our new athletics unit with a focus on improving our running skills. The children showed great enthusiasm and effort, with Holly and Max really letting their light shine this week! ⭐ A special mention also goes to Reggie for his engagement and positive attitude.

English has been a real highlight – wow! We completed our final task for The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark unit and wrote our own owl fact files. The children’s work has been incredible. They have confidently used commas in a list, adverbs and conjunctions and we are so very proud of the progress they have made.

In Maths, we have been finding equal groups by sharing and grouping and we were introduced to the division symbol. The learning was very practical and Year 2 showed super understanding and teamwork throughout.

Our Computing lessons focused on pictograms, where the children enjoyed sorting and interpreting data.
In Geography, we began learning about human and physical features, identifying and mapping key places on a world map. We discussed examples such as the Statue of Liberty (human feature) and the Giant’s Causeway (physical feature), along with many others. We also recapped the four countries of the UK and their capital cities.

During History, we explored why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly and started comparing different versions of events created by historians. The children found it fascinating to learn that the past can be represented in different ways and that it is important to use a variety of sources.

Please remember to send your child's full PE kit in each week. We have had a few children without them this week. Thank you for your support with this.

Finally, well done to our Numbots superstars Kora, Leighton and Sophie who secured the top spots this week and a big thank you to everyone who has been reading at home – your support makes a real difference!

What a fantastic start to the term – well done, Year 2!
