Delamere's Weekly Blog - 30.01.26

Date: 30th Jan 2026 @ 5:25pm

What a brilliant week we’ve had in Year 2! The children have been busy learning, exploring, creating and showing fantastic enthusiasm in every lesson. We are so proud of their hard work and growing confidence across all subjects. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up

English
This week we continued exploring poems about the night. We ended our week in style by creating our own night‑time poems using lots of interesting vocabulary and repetitive language. They are honestly amazing — well done, everyone!

Maths
We have now completed our addition and subtraction unit. The children have been comparing calculations and solving missing‑number problems with great perseverance. Next week, we move on to learning about money.

History
We worked as Historians to compare the city of London today with London in 1666. We discovered lots of interesting facts: the city was much smaller, the streets were narrow and dark (no electricity!), and the houses were made of wood. Fantastic historical thinking!

RE
In RE we explored the Jewish celebration of Purim, which celebrates the bravery of Queen Esther. We used instruments to make lots of noise to drown out the villain Haman’s name and cheered for Mordecai. We then made our own masks to reflect the tradition of dressing up for Purim.

PSHCE
Our focus this week was practice makes perfect. The children thought carefully about writing their own personal targets to work on.

PE
On Tuesday we developed our netball skills and on Thursday we practised football skills. Chest passes, bounce passes and throwing accuracy were all super! In football we ended our session with a fab game of crab football. A huge well done to Zaylah, who was outstanding with her throwing and catching accuracy and was awarded Star of the Session.

Art
In Art we practised drawing small. The children examined tiny objects closely and used pencil pressure to add fine detail. Their drawings are absolutely fabulous!

A big WELL DONE to Archie, Sophie and Molly! We also handed out 11 stickers to children who accessed the Numbots programme this week.
However, this still means that nearly half of the class are not completing their home learning. I’ve told the children that if everyone logs in one week, I will do a dance! Come on Delamere!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
