Delamere's Weekly Blog - 30.9.2022

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 4:23pm

This has been another jam packed week in Delamere. The children are really working their socks off!

In English we have been using our inference skills once again to think about how the characters we have met so far in the book ‘Troll Swap’ might be feeing. We have written letters from Tabitha’s mum and dad to her Grandma asking for some advise and also role played the exciting part of the story where Tabitha and Timothy met with a clunk! It was brilliant to see the children using all that they have learned so far to make sensible predictions about what the two characters might do next. Well done to those children who have been praised for their improvement in handwriting and basic skills – this is such an important part of our writing and we are very proud of you!

Maths has seen us begin to compare two-digit numbers – we have used the language greater than, less than and equal to and have grown in confidence in using the inequality symbols below. We have used lots of practical resources to improve our understanding including dienes blocks and number lines and some of us are even using our skills to confidently solve problems.

The children have really impressed with their Shared Reading this week, learning about Pufferfish and Octopuses. We have been locating key vocabulary and using clues from questions to locate the answers.

In Science this week the children met my pet spider! We carefully took the lid off only to find that I had been sold a toy spider instead of a real one! I couldn’t believe it and challenged the children to convince me using scientific reasoning that my spider was not alive and to then classify whether it was alive, dead or had never been alive. The children were brilliant and I will be making a prompt visit to the pet shop to ask for a full refund!

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Danielle, Toby and Belle for coming top of the table on Numbots and Savannah, Toby and Belle who have been awarded our Excellent Examples for the week.

Have a great weekend and we will see you next week for more fun and learning.
