What a great first week back!

Thursday was World Book Day and this year it was all about dragons at OSJ! Did your children tell you about all of the dragon eggs spotted around the school? There were even two in our classroom, a large, sparkly silver egg and a small, glittery, orange egg. During the day we began to see cracks on the little egg and then we noticed 2 tiny feet poking out. It was a cute, baby dragon! I took the large egg home on Thursday night and kept it warm in my airing cupboard but it still hadn’t hatched on Friday, so we thought of ways that we could keep it warm at school. We decided the best way would be to wrap it in a scarf. Later that day we were so egg-cited (couldn’t resist sorry!) to see a larger dragon had hatched out. We need to think of some names now for our new friends. Let’s hope they aren’t as mischievous as the dragons from our class text ‘The Dragon Machine’.

In Maths we have been practising adding two digit numbers using the strategy in the picture below. I wonder if your child can talk you through the steps and maybe use the strategy to solve 23 + 45.

In Science we completed our last Science investigation in our Materials unit and this time we were testing how absorbent different materials are. We tested kitchen roll, cardboard, tinfoil, a tea towel and a plastic bag. We discovered that the kitchen roll was the most absorbent and had lots of fun watching coloured water travel up it.

Our Numbots winners this week are Danielle and Adelaide and our excellent examples go to Lilly T, Lucas and Poppy.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to lots more fun and learning next week.
