Well what a jam packed week we have had!

It was so lovely to see such a wonderfully colourful class yesterday as we explored the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ for World Book Day. A particular highlight was when the whole school gathered together on the playground to create our very own Over St. John’s Crayon Box, a wonderful moment that the children thoroughly enjoyed. Another highlight was the story telling session after school and we would just like to thank you for your support with it. It is so lovely to see our school community coming together, and what better way than through stories.

As a class we began the day by exploring all of the wonderful things that we can draw with our crayons and then each chose our own favourite crayon and then used googly eyes and pipe cleaners to create crayon characters. It was then our job to look after them for the rest of the day. We were very shocked when we came back from playtime to discover our basket of crayons had written us a letter to tell use how unhappy they were with the way we had been looking after them, peeling off their wrappers and breaking them in half. We then quickly got to work trying to persuade our crayons to stay, first by talking to them and then by writing letters and speech bubbles. You will be pleased to know that all of our crayons decided to stay and I hope that the children’s crayon friends came home in one piece.

In English this week we have begun a new poetry unit exploring the poems ‘Night Sounds’ and ‘Questions At Night’. The children have done a great job of exploring new vocabulary and unpicking the language used in each poem. Today we moved on to comparing the poems and it was great to hear the children expressing their likes and dislikes.

In Maths we have looked at subtracting two 2-digit numbers and the children have shown an increased confidence particularly in recording their work. We will continue with this next week.

Well done for another great swimming session Delamere – your swimming teachers were so proud of the progress you have made so far and were particular impressed with the effort that you all put in. Well done!

This week it was so brilliant to see so many children move up the reading ladders! Lots of happy faces and proud teachers – keep it up! It makes such a difference to your child’s learning when they read at least 4 times a week.

This week we only appear to have one certificate winner for Numbots. Now this may be an error on the website but could mean that the engagement this week has not been as high as previous weeks. It is so important that you engage with Numbots every week as it really is a great way to improve your child’s Maths fluency skills which will in turn support their learning in school. Here’s an extra big WELL DONE for Evie who got first place this week!

Another big well done to Ava, Ameila and Zac who are our excellent examples.

We hope that you have a fabulous weekend and we look forward to seeing you for more fun and learning next week.
