Delamere's Weekly Blog - 8.11.2024
Date: 8th Nov 2024 @ 3:35pm
What a busy start back to our second half term. It has been lovely catching up with the children about Bonfire nights, Halloween parties and cosy times at home but we have hit the ground running this week and are straight back to business in Delamere!
In English we have begun our first poetry unit, ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ by Edward Lear and have explored lots of interesting vocabulary and learned about how he uses rhythm and rhyme. We finished our week by making our own nonsense poems and we are very pleased with the outcomes.
In Maths we have practised counting in steps of 10, 2, 5 and 3 which is a skill that can help us to solve problems more efficiently. It is also a skill that can be easily practised at home, counting socks and shoes in 2s or counting how many fingers there are on the gloves in your house. Perhaps you could practise counting in these steps when going up or down the stairs, working out what number you will be on when you reach the top or bottom. We would love to hear about how you get on with this perhaps with a quick note or photo.
This week has been Remembrance Week at OSJ in preparation for Remembrance day next week. In Delamere we have listening to a beautiful story about Poppies, learned about Sidney Cornell who served in the British army during World War 2 and created sentences to explain why we believe it is important that we remember him. We also explored the life of another person who helped people during a war, Florence Nightingale. It was great to listen as the children made connections and compared her to Mary Seacole.
In other areas of the curriculum we looked at different habitats and what animals need for survival in Science, finished our wax resist work in Art and began our dance unit in PE. Speaking pf PE please make sure that children have their PE kits in on a Tuesday and Wednesday for their PE lessons.
Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Kalvin for topping our leader boards. This half term we will be giving certificates for the highest number of minutes played and the highest number of levels passed. Please don’t forget that Numbots forms part of our home learning and it is really important that the children access it regularly throughout the week.
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
