What a great last week of our first Spring half term!

Wednesday this week was all about Design Technology and healthy eating. The children received a letter from the Minister for School Lunches asking them to design and make a healthy wrap that could be served at schools across the UK. They threw themselves at the challenge and got straight on with researching the Eatwell Plate to find out what a balanced diet looks like and to help them remember the different food groups, made their own. It was then time to taste some different combinations of food to see which combinations would work best, including a food item from each of the following groups; protein, fruit and vegetable and dairy. We then each chose our favourite combination and designed our final wrap using pictures and labels. In the afternoon we practised our cutting skills, learning the claw, fork and bridge technique and even grated our own cheese. Finally, we put all of our mixed up ingredients into a wrap, folded it and cut it in half. So many new skills were learnt and we were really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm to taste new things. The wraps looked amazing and one child even said we should set up a company – ‘It’s a Wrap’ perhaps.  Well done Delamere!

Another exciting highlight from the week was a discovery that dragons had visited our classroom on Wednesday night! Jane managed to capture some fantastic footage on her camera and we worked hard writing letters to tell Mrs Snowdon all about it. It was great to see the children using a variety of sentence types and even using skills such as subordinating conjunctions, expanded noun phrases and commas in a list. They don’t seem to have returned but we are still keeping an eye out just in case.

In preparation for World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March, please could you try and collect 2 large cardboard egg boxes for your child? We will be doing some dragon themed craft with them. on this day. Don't worry if you can't as we have a big box of junk modelling that we have been collecting and can use if needed but egg boxes would be better.

Our big WELL DONE this week goes to Olivia and Adelaide for topping the Numbots leader board and Thea and Olivia for being our Excellent Examples for the week.

We hope that you are having a fantastic half term and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 28th February.
