Delamere's Weekly Blog

What an amazing week we have had!

We kicked the week off with Odd Socks day to begin Anti-Bullying week and celebrate our differences. Throughout the week we explored computer safety and made Sunflowers of Support to remind us who we can go to if we have any worries. We also began to think how we can share images safely and we were really impressed with the children’s prior knowledge. Next week we will move our learning onto how our actions online can affect others.

This week was also Nursery Rhyme Week and we have had lots of fun recapping the Nursery Rhyme Incy Wincy Spider, saying it, singing it and acting it out. We will now have a focus Nursery Rhyme every week which we will share in our weekly blog.

In English we completed our ‘Troll Swap’ unit and were really impressed with how the children created their own versions of the story including many of the mastery keys. We are now much more confident in finding and using noun phrases and are using ‘and’ to join our ideas more consistently. We also saw lots of examples of the word ‘because’ being used effectively and will continue to work on this skill.

We had a busy week in History, completing our Florence Nightingale work and our Queens unit. We took some time to look through our workbooks and all agreed that we have a lot to proud of!

On Thursday we were so excited to have 4 special guests from Vale Royal Falconry, Nannette and her 3 beautiful owls. The whole school met the wonderful creatures and listened to some fascinating facts and then Delamere Class were lucky enough to get up close to the birds and even hold an owl. A stand out moment was watching the children hug Dennis the large European Eagle Owl! What a truly special experience this was and I think that you will be able to see from the photos, a memory that will hopefully stay with the children for a long time.

Finally to end our week we had a virtual author visit with Vashti Harrison, the writer of the beautiful book ‘Big’.

Our big WELL DONE for Numbots this week goes to Archie and Daisy.

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.

Team Delamere.
