Delamere's Weekly Update 9.12.16

Date: 9th Dec 2016 @ 4:00pm

What a busy week!

In English we have been looking at The Owl and the Pussycat poem by Edward Lear. The children learnt the first verse off by heart and performed it to the rest of the class. We have designed our own runcible spoon and described it using noun phrases. To finish off the unit we used the original poem to help us write our own poem called Santa and his reindeer. The children worked really well with a partner to do this.

In Maths we have been looking at addition and subtraction. We have learnt two new methods to help us carry out these calculations. Perhaps your child can show you at home. For addition most of us are adding two 2-digit numbers but without crossing tens e.g. 34+23= but not 37+26=. This is the same in subtraction, our answers do not cross a ten e.g. 58-35= buy not 58-39=. Please do come and see me if you would like any further information about the strategies that we are using in school for addition and subtraction.

In topic work they have begun to make their puppets with Mrs Smith. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished products. I am already really impressed with their sewing skills.

We have started to learn the words for the Christmas carol we will be singing at the Carol service on the evening of Tuesday 20th December. Your child has been given a set of words and I would really appreciate it if they could practise these as much as possible, there are several tricky words for them to learn. There will be no other homework now until after Christmas so please make sure you are taking the time to practise the song words and read daily with your child.

See you on Monday,

From Mrs Bettley.
