Fantastic Friday in Delamere - 3.9.2021

Date: 2nd Sep 2021 @ 8:12pm

Wow! What a wonderful first two days we have had in Delamere. It has been so great getting to know our new Year 2s and even better to find out how kind, caring and eager to learn they are. And I can't leave out the impeccable behaviour and goregous manners! We can't wait to to see how you develop and grow throughout the year.

We have had lots of fun getting to know each other, exploring our classroom during COOL times and reminding ourselves of our Golden Rules. To help us we followed a recipe to make a happy and safe school with the children taking turns to add in the different ingredients to the bowl, like being gentle and listening well, and giving it a good mix. We even added some extra smiles and lots of love! (See pictures below)

We also had a go at writing some funny sentences about what we DIDN'T do over the Summer. We had lots of great ideas from swimming with sharks to flying like a bird! Well done everyone.

Our RE unit this term is all about the Holy Spirit and how it changed the disciples after Pentecost. We started by exploring wind and thinking of how it moves and changes things and creates energy. We even used a fan to see the affect of wind on a tray of feathers and it was lovely to watch as the children giggled with excitement as the feathers flew around the room. Next we thought about fire and the children came up with some super ideas about how fire can change things, my favourite being how it changes a marshmallow, yummy! This all helped us as we moved onto listening to the story of Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit changed the disciples. The children listened so well and had lots of interesting discussions, noticing the importance of fire and wind.

In Maths we made Maths monsters by rolling a dice and adding that many eyes, legs, arms or teeth! We had lots of fun and not one of our monsters looked the same but they were all equally brilliant (see photos). We will use these monsters to help us with our Maths work and celebrate when we have been Maths Masters.

This afternoon we explored the story 'Super Duper You' by Sophy Henn and thought about all of the things that make us super! We created our own pieces of artwork inspired by the front cover and have displayed them in our class so that we are reminded to 'be bold, be proud, be brillant .. be super duper you!' (see photo below)

Each Friday we will choose some Excellent Examples and this week it was Ava and Phoebe so a big WELL DONE to you both!

Remember, your teacher on Monday is Mrs Williamson and she is so excited to meet you all. It is PE on Monday afternoon, so don't forget your PE kits.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week.
