Hello Hatchmerians

We have had great fun this week going for our bus journeys.  So far we have been to the beach, the pantomime, Disney land and Pontins!  Have a look at the pictures below for some of our careful drivers. I have assessed the children on the High Frequency Words and they will be bringing home an updated version tonight. Please go through these words when you read with your child.

Next week we are going to look at some of the sights of London in a bit more detail and learn about its most famous inhabitant-the King.  In our reading we are going to be looking for fluency and flow.  The children are doing very well at sounding out words and recognising high frequency words (HFW) whilst reading but sometimes they are so focussed on the mechanics of reading the word they forget to read for meaning.  I would suggest getting them to re-read the sentence after they have decoded all the words and asking them what it means.  I wouldn’t necessarily do this for every page just the pages they have struggled with.

This week for our writing task the children will be writing speech bubbles and thinking about their finger spaces.  Spaces between the words is quite a tricky concept for our children to grasp but it is the start of punctuation and it helps the children understand how to write so that other people can read it.

Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday
