Hello Hatchmere

Another very busy week for us. We started our new topic on Super heroes with the accidental release from their frozen prison of some very naught peas. We have tried really hard to find them all and put them back in jail but they keep escaping. The children have been working hard building jails and traps to keep the naughty peas from causing even more trouble. We introduced our new book ‘Super Tato’ and talked about what a superhero does. The children had a lovely time doing their Superhero poses and telling me all about their super power. We have had a lot of superhero role play this week which will help them with their writing next week.

In Maths we introduced the children to the rekenreks which looks like a small abacus and gives them a very visual way of representing number sentences and exploring number patterns. The children as per usual picked it up quickly and were soon using it to show me number bonds to five and ten. They also discovered they make a wonderful noise and are quite therapeutic to play with.

Next week we do have a few changes. The children will be going to Year 1 classroom on Friday afternoon. They will be going for the next four Friday afternoons as we have our New Starters visit us each Friday afternoon. It does not seem that long ago that these were my new starters! They will doing PE with a Sports Coach and spend their time getting to know the classroom and the routines of Year 1. We feel that this is a really important part of the transition process and helps the children feel excited about the move to Year 1. As a result of this the children will be dismissed from a different door. They will not be coming down the ramp as per usual but will coming out what we in the school call the Hall door. That is the door that is the bottom corner of the playground-please don’t hesitate to come and ask and I will point it out to you. This will be the door they come out of next year.
