Hatchmere's Class Blog 1.12.23

Date: 1st Dec 2023 @ 3:49pm

Hello Hatchmerian families,

This week the children have been introduced to Mrs Roche who will be a TA in our classroom going forward. Welcome Mrs Roche, we are going to have so much fun together. Mrs Monson has now joined the Y3/4 classroom and the children have enjoyed waving and filling her in on our adventures.

Hatchmere came in this week to an invitation from Herbie Hatchmere to borrow one of his books for 1 night only! The children have been filling in his Elf Borrowing Forms and taking home a book to enjoy with their families. Thank you Herbie!

In Literacy we have finished reading The Squirrels who Squabbled and the children were very concerned that the squirrels jumped into a river when they couldn't swim and didn’t have a life jacket on!! We have been hard at work on a design to help them to retrieve the pine cone without going into the dangerous water. We have had huge grabbers, helicopters, fishing rods, boats and some children though a bridge might help them. This task will go towards their final writing assessment where they will label and describe their design.

We have had great fun exploring our numbers this week. We have ordered numbers 1 - 10, counted out some of our sorting animals carefully and explained which group had the most and which had the fewest. Hatchmere also played a 1 more and 1 less game on the carpet using our special dice. The winners won 5 raffle tickets each.

As you can see from the pictures below, Hatchmere have re-enacted The Nativity Story in costume. We are very excited for our performance at the Carol Concert. Today, all of the children have chosen who they would like play. Next week I will send home a slip with their choice of character and what they may need (leggings/tights/t-shirts).

Our Christmas tree arrived today and we have had a wonderful time decorating it. The Christmas tree can be re-decorated each day by the children, this is an excellent activity that promotes hand/eye coordination, fine motor control and working together for a collective cause.

Thank you to those that kindly donated towards our class hamper. The hampers will be raffled off to raise funds for the school.

Next week is very busy, we have our Secret Santa event across Monday and Tuesday; Nativity rehearsals; Christmas at Cotebrook on Wednesday; Christmas Disco on Thursday….phew, I’m tired just thinking about it!
