Hatchmere's Class Blog 13.10.23

Hello Hatchmerians,

The children’s confidence in their learning seems to have soared this week. They have suddenly realised ‘I can write words’ and have taken that into their play. I have had children coming to me and showing me their writing efforts from their time in our creative area. I have had writing sent in from home and the children have loved receiving 5 raffle tickets and showing off their efforts to friends. Hatchmere have also chosen to use their own time to produce Gingerbread Man Story Maps. Some of these children even chose to use our tricky vocabulary in their labelling…how amazing!

In Maths this week we have been practicing the skill of immediately recognising numbers in small groups of items. The children have created their own subitising cards, independently, to take home and show off to their families. One of our challenges this week has been to quickly look at a subitising card and use shakers to shake out the correct number....no talking involved.

Hatchmere have created some beautiful still life pastel drawings of flowers. They have looked carefully at the colours they have needed and selected accordingly. These pictures are on display in our classroom and the children are rightly proud of them.

Today we have had quite a changeable day. The children firstly had their individual school pictures taken and then we had a visit from the nurses for their flu vaccines. their has been heavy rain at both break and lucnhtimes so Hatchmere have spent the majority of their time inside the classroom, which is very unusual, however, they handled it all beautifully.

Hatchmere have been given a Monster Phonics Sound Mat to take home and you will find it inside their reading folders. Currently we are up to the 'ck' sound and will be exploring 'e, u and r' next week (please see the attached planning). Many of our children find it a useful tool to practice their sound recognition, letter formation and writing at home. It is fantastic to see the children bringing in their writing from home this week, each piece recieves 5 raffle tickets and lots of praise from staff.

The weather is set to change next week (just in time for half term) so a gentle reminder that the children will need a waterproof coat (particularly if walking to school) jumpers/cardigans and full, sturdy shoes.
