Hatchmere's Class Blog 15.9.23

Well done Hatchmere on your first full week in school!

Firstly, all of us in Hatchmere would like to thank Mr Teece who very kindly offered to come and put together our new water apparatus. The children enjoyed watching him work with his drill and other hand tools to create their new learning tool. This is a fabulous addition to our outside classroom provision. Thank you Mr Teece!

The children are settling into the routines of the classroom beautifully. You may have heard about the ‘jobs’ in the morning. This is where the children follow pictorial representations to organise themselves for the morning. This promotes independence and increases their self-esteem as they need little to no input from an adult to complete these tasks. Similar routines are in place for snack time, lunch, and home time.

This week has been all about those Pesky Pirates!! We received a letter from them demanding that we find their gold, or they will take all of our sand from our sandpit! They left us a treasure map that we had to follow...X marks the spot!! This gave the children the opportunity to explore our school and meet the teachers as they searched for the gold. Hatchmere enjoyed this task so much they were inspired to make their own treasure maps, using an X to indicate where they have left their own treasure.

The children have really been enjoying our outside classroom this week as they have created a Pirate Ship and a Pirate Obstacle course. They even got to walk the plank. Hatchmere have learned how handle our large blocks safely to design their own learning space, I am sure you will agree that their creations were impressive.

We have been reading the book Never Mess with a Pirate Princess by Holly Ryan to support our learning about Pirates. We have made pirate hats, learned a pirate dance, and counted to 10 with a pirate song. Please enjoy the pictures below and talk to your child about their very fabulous learning.

Attached below is also the class planning for next week. We begin a new literacy focus, start our Monster Phonics teaching, and explore numbers.

Hatchmere will also be joining the whole school for Collective Worship and Singing Assembly at 8.50am every morning. The school gates open at 8.35 am to enable the children to come in and prepare themselves for the day. The School Register is taken at 8.45am. Please may you ensure your child comes through the gate as close to 8.35am as possible so they have time to prepare their things and visit the toilet before Collect Worship.

A gentle reminder that P.E. is taught on a Tuesday and a Friday, and all children will need their P.E. kits in school to be able to fully take part in the lesson.
