Well done to our children receiving their reading awards in collective worship this morning! Additionally, 2 of our Hatchmerians were celebrated by our kitchen staff for always using their manners...how gorgeous.
The Naughty Bus has arrived! I have a feeling he will be getting up to some mischief over the next few weeks. Part of the children’s literacy task this week was to label a bus. The children used their sound mats to support their writing, carefully forming their letters. Super work Hatchmere! Where is the Naughty Bus from? Ask your child to see if they can tell you.
We have thoroughly enjoyed role-playing bus journeys in our Outside Classroom this week. We purchased our bus tickets, boarded the bus, gave the tickets to the driver, popped on our seatbelts (safety first!) and settled down for our adventures. The children have traveled to Polar Palace, Disneyworld, Legoland, Malta and The Fair to name but a few.
Drawing Club this week saw the children designing their own pair of underpants! We had great fun discussing and drawing our creations. The children then wrote their descriptions independently, using a sentence checker, to make sure they had all the ingredients of a good sentence.
In Maths this week we have been practicing their number formation up to 6. They are becoming very confident at ordinality (counting/writing number in the correct order). The children have put their subitising skills to work in games of Snap! The rules and expectations were modelled, and small groups were supervised playing. I can tell this is going to be favourite game amongst out mathematicians as I can already hear the children organising games to play with their friends during their ‘choosing’ time (this is called child-led learning).
During our adult supported task we have explored a part-part-whole with multi-link used to support their understanding. I was blown away with how quickly this was picked up with some children confident enough to continue their work independently. Supporting each other’s understanding and having fantastic mathematical conversations.
Our Beauty Salon is now up and running with appoinments being taken...anyone for a haircut?
