Hatchmere's Class Blog 17.10.25

We have had so much fun this week! I know the children are excited to share their class dance with you, I have assured them that you all know it and will be keen to join in....you're welcome :0)

Well done to those children who have been the first to receive a colour on their reading rainbow! The children have had 4 instances of reading recorded over 4 weeks on the online portal. Their achievement was celebrated by the whole school in Collective Worship where they collected their certificate to a big round of applause.

Our Outside classroom was turned into a pirate ship! We had a hammock so our tired pirates could have a rest, and we waved our pirate flags whilst our friends walked the plank.

Our Drawing Club activity this week saw the children create their own treasure maps. They were full of gold coins, boats, treasure, trees and even a castle. The children’s writing was supported by the HFW/CEW they are currently learning and their own fantastic sounding out (segmenting) of key words. Excellent work Hatchmere.

This week has seen the children harvesting vegetables to match their shopping list. Hatchmere used their knowledge of numerals (1,2,3,4,5) and the cardinal value (right amount) to fill their shopping bags. The children have loved this activity and have returned to it time and again. What super shoppers. We used our stuffed animals to support our stem sentences with a focus on 'more' and 'fewer' - Percy the Puffin has fewer trains than Steven the Seal - Monty the Mountain Goat has more dinosaurs than Lenny the Lemur.

Road Safety was taken very seriously this week as Hatchmere showed how sensible they could be. We are always discussing personal safety in Hatchmere and the children certainly showed off their skills ‘on the road’. We talked about zebra crossings, traffic lights, being seen in the dark and looking and listening. As an added challenge, there was even traffic (bikes/scooters) but the children were alert and careful. I am very proud of them.
