Hatchmere's Class Blog 18.11.22

The rain has not dampened Hatchmere’s spirits this week.

The children have really enjoyed getting stuck into some challenges around the classroom, making potions, voting for the book they want a teacher to read and writing sentences!! Phew, I think Team Hatchmere are ready for a restful weekend!

In Literacy this week the children have been thinking about Plan Ahead Bruce and his amazing stockpile of food. They have written a list of what food they can see and showed off their fantastic letter formation…take a look at the pictures below for our excellent examples this week.

Math’s this week has seen the children sharing food out equally for their pretend picnic, they did a good job in recognizing that equal means the same amount on each plate. Potions, pouring and playing has led to some interesting conversations about capacity. The children were challenged to show a jug that was full, half full and empty. They have had a great time pouring and filling and some children even challenged each other to show different capacities (an excellent example of pupils taking their learning into their play).

Hatchmere have been exploring the word ‘democracy’ this week. They have learnt about the Government and our Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. We focused on what voting means. Mrs Kelly suggested that the children should have an extra day off this year but Mrs Teece said that this was not a good idea and shouldn’t happen. What do you think the children voted for?....poor Mrs Teece lost in spectacular fashion and Mrs Kelly is now Prime Minister of Hatchmere!! The children then voted for which book they might like a teacher to read by casting their ballot (name card) in the relevant book tray. The votes were then counted and the children learnt that the book with the most votes would be read. There were some disappointed Hatchmerians but a good overall lesson in democracy.

Today we have all come in our own clothes in support of Children in Need. All the children looked fabulous and really enjoyed showing us their outfits, please see some gorgeous pictures below.

Hatchmere will soon be featured in The Winsford Guardian as part of their Reception Class yearly feature, we are looking forward to getting our hands on a copy.

Hatchmere has celebrated this week with a little ‘Happy’ dance in class as every child had read at least 4 times at home and as a result, all reading stars were moved up the ladder!! Woohoo, well done Hatchmere!!
