Hatchmere's Class Blog 21.11.25

Brrrrrr, it's been a chilly week!

Well done to our Orange reading award achievers! They were celebrated in Collective Worship this morning. Also, we had an award given to one of our Hatchmerians from our Junior Safety Officers. Their poster won the JSO competition!

*Breaking News* Hatchmere welcomed a new addition to the classroom yesterday. Herbie Hatchmere appeared in the morning, by magic, sitting on his elf chair. A letter he sent explains that he is our class Book Elf. Each day he will bring one of his favourite books for our class leader to open. This book will then be read to the class. How exciting!

Our Drawing Club stimulus for this week was We’re Going to Find a Monster! By Majorie Blackman. We figured out that the children were using their imagination to traverse their house to go and wake up their big brother for breakfast. We were so inspired that we decided to build some dens in our Outside Classroom and use our imaginations to ‘pretend’ we were somewhere else (in a tent, on a boat and in cave). The children even enjoyed blowing bubbles to recreate the bubbly bubble lake from the story...fortunately there was no ‘foamy fiend’.

As part of the story the children kept count of how many people lived in Charlie’s and Eddie’s house. We used our literacy books to draw and then list everyone who lived in our house. Hatchmere loved sharing with their friends about adults, siblings and pets. I have added some pictures of their work below. Can you spot your family?

I have some excellent mathematicians in Hatchmere. The children have been confidently using our stem sentences of ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’ and ‘equal’. They were able to complete some independent tasks to show off their knowledge.

Some children have brought their writing in from home. This has been celebrated in class, and the child awarded 5 raffle tickets each time. It is gorgeous when the children feel so proud of their work.

You may have heard the ‘c’ word creeping in. The children are learning all about the story of The Nativity in RE. They have been roleplaying the story both in costume and using resources within the classroom.  Their sequencing skills are excellent.
