Hooray for half term!
I think all of our little Hatchmerians (and the big ones) are ready for a rest after 8 weeks of full-time big school. And hasn't their progress been amazing!?
It was lovely to meet you all at our Parent's Consultation evenings this week. Your feedback, insights and support of your child's learning is fantastic and I'm excited to work in partnership with you for the rest of their reception year. This half term please use the sound mat and HFW/CEW sheet for daily practice to support the children’s previously taught sounds and 'passwords'.
This week our Drawing Club stimulus has been an episode of Trapdoor (link added below). We met Berk who was tasked with making a disgusting breakfast for The Thing Upstairs! To say the children enjoyed it is an understatement. They were so excited to add their own 'ingredients'. The children used their phonic skills to spell, then write, the most disgusting ingredients they could think of: frogs, pepper, fish eyes, spiders, slime and poo! Yuck. Talk to your child about the higher-level vocabulary listed below below...can they tell you what each word means?
We also read Room On The Broom and Hatchmere had the best time re-enacting the story on their own brooms with their very own animals! There were lots of giggles.
Our Mathematicians have put their thinking hats on this week to create different types of patterns. We have used animals, children, shapes to develop our skills. Alongside patterns we have been investigating basic shapes: square, triangle, rectangle and circle. We looked at points, sides and length. We even used shapes to create a rocket. We played our own spooky game where the children used their crocodile fingers to collect spooky treasure through a spiders web. They then counted and compared amounts. 'I have more than/fewer than' and used their 1:1 correspondence. Brillant maths work Hatchmere.
Hatchmere have enjoyed learning about the Hindu celebration of Diwali. The children have created their own colourful rangoli patterns and crafted some Diya's for a colourful display within the classroom.
Enjoy your half terms. I will see you back at school at 8.35am on Monday 3rd November.
