Hatchmere's Class Blog 23.1.26

Date: 22nd Jan 2026 @ 5:06pm

Is it still January? We wouldn’t know, we’re having far too much fun :0)

Well done to our first Green Rainbow Award ( at least 4 x reading over 16 weeks - 64 reads) readers! Their reading rainbows are really filling up. We also had a Yellow Award (4 x reading over 12 weeks - 48 reads) given which is a fantastic reading achiement. Well done you superstar readers!!

Our Drawing Club activity this week focused on the children's favourite things to play/do. They have loved chatting about games that they might like to play with Dougal. We had hide and seek, races, Lego, jigsaw puzzles and popping bubbles.  Next week the children will independently write about the activity that they chose.

Our Naughty Bus has been up to no good in our classroom, and we are fed up of it! We have had beans flung around, bridges created all over the classroom...we couldn’t even sit down to do our morning jobs! And would you believe that the Naughty Bus has even been driving through paint and leaving colourful tracks everywhere (we turned this into a positive and had a lovely sensory experience). We will be reporting this Mrs Snowdon.

During literacy the children have been thinking about how they might feel if they were waiting for the bus, and it drove straight past them. The Winsford Guardian has been interviewing the disgruntled customers and reporting on how they were feeling. As part of their supported writing task Hatchmere wrote down where they might be going and how they felt. The children were very careful to use finger spaces to aid their re-reading of their sentence. See if your child can spot their writing below.

Maths saw the children have enjoying exploring the number 6 and its place within a number line. We have also conducted a traffic survey, carefully adding one more mark against each vehicle that travelled past the school. Hatchmere have been showing off their independent investigative skills to complete a part-part-whole model. You may remember that last week this task was modelled by an adult and now the children can do it by themselves. Excellent work!
