Welcome to Summer term 1!
We have had lots of fun with our Drawing Club stimulus ‘Six Dinner Sid’ by Inga Moore. The children used their independent writing skills to create a sentence explaining what they would make Sid for dinner if he visited their house; chicken nuggets, tuna pasta, spag bol and ham sandwiches…yummy! I think I might pop round for dinner one evening.
The children have been working so hard developing their number sense and coming up with strategies to use when presented with a ‘counting problem’. I have thoroughly enjoyed the mathematical confidence on display with their various tasks. Today we had a Hatchmere vs Mrs Teece math's quiz and I was victorious! Hurrah! Well done Mrs Teece, better luck next time Hatchmere.
Our artists have been exploring local wildlife with a focus on local birds. We are developing a good knowledge of birds with many of the children recognizing and naming the birds that we see in our Outside areas. Conversations between the children of when and where they have seen different kinds of birds show me that their learning is expanding and connecting to other parts of their lives (holidays, family walks and visits to the zoo) which in turn is also developing conversational skills! This is an excellent example of ‘talk for learning’ without the need for adult intervention or initiation. Wonderful to see and hear.
This week the children have been introduced to ‘My Happy Mind’. They have met a character called ‘HAP’ who will support Hatchmere to better understand how their brain works. They were enthralled with the introductory assembly and were clearly very interested in how our bodies and brains work together.
This week the children let their light shine by expressing creativity in their writing, showing confidence and perseverance in maths, and sharing thoughtful conversations and curiosity about the world and their wellbeing.
