Hatchmere's Class Blog 25.11.22

We have had a great week in Hatchmere!

This week we have had a focus on Anti-Bullying throughout the week. The children have explored the word bully and what that word means. They have also learned who they can go to for help and after a quick re-cap at the end of the week we were so impressed with their answers; teachers, family members, friends and lunchtime supervisors.

During literacy this week Hatchmere have received a letter from the forest animals who were upset by the behaviour of those pesky squabbling squirrels. Each child has written a letter to give Cyril and Bruce some advice; stop and be kind, cut the pinecone in half, stop fighting and share. We have been really listening hard to our sounds as we stretch out those tricky words and then write them down. There has been some super writing! This week Mrs Kelly has given out new High Frequency Words and some that need extra revision. Please continue to practice these words with your child daily as this improves not only their reading, but as we have seen this week, they start to filter into their written work.

Maths this week has focused on introducing 'part, part, whole'. This will support the children to see that 2 numbers can be added together to form another 'whole' number. This links nicely with number bonds, sharing and subtraction. It helps them to see that there is more to the No.5 then just 5.

Our PE lessons this week have seen the children moving and dancing like animals. We have had lots of fun developing an awareness of how our bodies feel at different stages of exercise alongside listening to the music to adjust how we are moving.

We have yet again celebrated with our Happy Dance as all of the children have read at home at least 4 times! The impact on the children's reading is evident and the children thoroughly deserve all of the praise they are getting. Thank you again for supporting your child in this crucial skill.

We realise that the children may be choosing to write Christmas cards to their classmates shortly Please look out for a list of names in your child's bookbag. This is an excellent oppurtunity for you to praise your child's beautiful handwriting. Remember - crocodile fingers to hold a pencil/pen and tall letters tall, small letters small. Your child will be used to hearing these phrases and can adjust their writing accordingly.
