We have had a gorgeous week!
In Maths we sang a counting song and Hatchmere showed how careful they were with counting on their fingers. We made sure we had the right number of fingers for the number we were counting. We have such good counters that Wibbly Wobbly Wand needed our advice on what strategies to use when counting a small amount. The children got right to work giving him some tips: Count slowly, count one at a time and stop when you have counted the last object…that is our stopping number! I have a feeling Wibbly Wobbly Wand will need our help again before long!
Phonics has seen the children reviewing their previously taught sounds and then introducing the sounds ‘i’ and ‘n’. I have been so impressed with the children’s segmenting skills (sounding out). They have been showing me that they can hear the sounds in some CVC words: sat, pat, tan, sit. Ask them to sound these words out on their fingers. Take a look below for some fabulous password writing, the children were so proud of themselves, as they should be!
The children have shown me that they can remember some information from our Drawing Club book The Gruffalo. They were able to draw 2 of the creatures from the story and came up with their own creature that they would like the mouse to meet. They listened really carefully to the initial (first) sounds in their animals and had a go at writing! Fantastic Hatchmere.
Gymnastics and Cricket have been a huge success! Hatchmere are always excited for their next lessons. Their coaches have had lots of positive comments about listening, effort and following instructions. I think we may have some professional athletes in our midst.
