Hatchmere's Class Blog 28.2.25

Hello Hatchmerians, don’t the lighter mornings and evenings feel good!?

Big well done to one of our very Hatchmerians who received an 'Over and Above at Over St John's' . They showed how much they value our school by picking up a piece if discarded plastic and putting it in the bin without being asked to! How gorgeous - 30 raffle tickets, an acknowledgment on our school recognition board, a shout out in collective worship and a big, well deserved round of applause! Phew, we like do like to celebrate our children at Over St Johns!

Another congratulations goes to another Bronze Reading Star achiever this week. They have shown that they have read at least 4 x week for 10 weeks! Well done.

Hatchmere’s Springwatch has officially began. We have discovered early Spring flowers on the school grounds; daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops and the beginnings of tulips. The children have found that the trees around their school are starting to bud and were looking forward to watching the season’s leaves unfold. The children are also starting to notice slight changes in the weather; it is cool in the mornings but warms up by the afternoon and there is more daylight. We will continue to monitor our spring signs and see how they develop.

In our Literacy lessons we have been introduced to some new focus vocabulary that we will use as we dive into our new class focus text of The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis. The children have been busy with our non-fiction books and finding out some facts about ponds, flowers, seeds and new life. Their descriptive language is developing nicely which will support their writing next week.

The children have been looking at the math’s rule of ‘1 more’ in respect of ordination. As we count the rule is the numbers get bigger by just 1 more (not 2 more or 3 more). If we use our multi-link to create a number staircase it's important that the staircase is safe and doesn’t have steps that are ‘2 more’ rather than ‘1 more’. Hatchmere have also been exploring the numbers hiding in 6 with their ‘part-part-whole’ investigations.

Hatchmere have a very busy few weeks planned until the end of term with a pond dipping visit, library visit and Easter Service to prepare for. More details of these events will be with you shortly.

Enjoy your weekends.
