Happy Lunar Year of the Snake!

Congratulations to the children who received the Bronze Reading stars today! They have read at least 4 times a week, for 10 weeks in order to gain their badge. It will soon be time to start collecting our Silver Awards with lots of our children making fantastic reading progress.

The children have really enjoyed immersing themselves in The Lunar New Year celebrations. They have taken part in a dragon dance outside wearing their brightly coloured dragon masks, they have tried some foods from the far east, made Chinese lanterns and celebrated the Year of the Snake by creating some snake decorations to hang in our classroom. We all had lots of fun!

In Literacy we have been writing a letter to Jack's mum telling her all about what the naughty bus has been up to within our classroom. Don't worry, we have taken photographic evidence to report this mess to Mrs Snowdon! The children have continued to work on putting finger spaces in their writing to help aide their re-reading of sentences.

In Maths the children have been continuing to think about their number bonds to 5. We have been learning how to puzzle solve with board games and have put our mathematician brains to work in our number bonds quiz. They have been composing and decomposing the number 5 investigating part-whole relations.

This week Hatchmere created their very own friendship potion to join our Hatchmere friendship charter and each added a quality that they found to be important to a good friendship, they had lots of fabulous ideas such as being kind, respectful, joyful, happy, excited, loveable and fun.

We have painted our large-scale transport pictures and have started to add these to our wonderful Naughty Bus display in class, the children did a super job thinking about the colours of the vehicles they had chosen. We have had a range of transport ideas such as trains, buses, helicopters, planes, tractors, fire engines, police cars and even rockets and submarines. It has been lovely to see these come to life.

Hatchmere definitely have some architects in the making. The Hatchmere team have been blown away by the amazing structures the children have created in our construction area with their block play. They have had a real focus on London and their buildings and we have seen some fantastic ideas. They were incredibly eager to tell us the different landmarks you can find in London and that it is England’s capital city. They have explored the differences between our buildings and those found in London stating that those in London are "very tall".

Have a lovely weekend.
