A very busy 4 day week in Hatchmere!
Well done to one Hatchmerian who received an ‘Over and Above at Over St John’s’. This award is read out by Mrs Snowdon our Friday collective Worship and put on display on the school noticeboard. This child went Over and Above by helping their friend at lunch time. They offered help without being asked and showed the rest of the school a fabulous example of our class Christian value of ‘Friendship’.
More good news! Hatchmere won the attendance trophy for last week, so today we got to enjoy extra playtime and the bikes and scooters at the same time as a treat. In Hatchmere we talk about attendance quite a bit. The children know how important school it is and can reel off the reasons to stay off school. We really want to win this trophy again! We can do it Hatchmere!!
Our healthy eating focus will continue into next week. We have been exploring our snacks and sorting them into healthy and non-healthy snacks. The children were confidently chatting to each other about their knowledge of healthy eating as they sorted their snacks out. We have our Healthy Eating chart displayed in the classroom and we won’t our healthy snack column to continue to rise! We can do it Hatchmere.
On Tuesday, Hatchmere had their very first whole class picture taken. They behaved impeccably and looked so smart. We then moved on to some small group photo’s and let me tell you…gorgeous is an understatement. I am really looking forward to seeing them. You will find the code and website that you need to access to view/buy on the small card they fetched home on Wednesday. It may take a few days for them to be uploaded.
The class celebrated VE day in style this week. They made some decorations to put up in class and ate lunch in a VE celebration ispired school hall. Some children even made their own celebration hats to wear. I am always blown away with how respectful and insightful the children are when talking about matters of huge importance. We have such a thoughtful class.
In our Literacy lessons this week the children have been exploring speech bubbles. We’ve come up with lots of things ‘Doggy’ might say to Lily when she see’s him in the garden. We then moved on to our writing task which the children have really enjoyed. There have been lots of pictures of animals with funny faces and the children have created the speech that they think matches the faces/actions. It’s been so much fun!
Hatchmere have been exploring number bonds to 5. They can use lots of different ways to do this: subitising, number-bond dancing, fingers, numicon, multi-link and by recording the corresponding written numerals. We have also been practicing our 1:1 counting of numbers up to and including 20. The children have been using their ‘marking off’ skill to complete their task.
I think you will agree that our Hatchmerians have worked incredibly hard this week…hopefully they will have a lie in for you tomorrow!
