I am sure you have heard all about the poor frozen Chilly Peas that we found in our classroom, last week. We had to free them as soon as possible, so the children got to work with the tools at hand. Some children remembered when in Wintertime we used salt to melt the ice quickly, others said that hot water can melt ice. The children decided to use them both together to free the peas. The children were glad they were able to help…. but oh dear, we are certainly regretting it!
On Monday we received an urgent letter from Supertato explaining all about the Chilli Peas and how we should keep them frozen, but it was too late! Ask your child what the chilli peas have been getting up to in our class this week.
During our Guided Reading sessions, the children have been encouraged to use expression. A troll in our latest Monster Phonics story was given life by some very enthusiastic children using their best troll voices to add expression to their reading.
The children have role-played calls to the emergency services using for our ‘People That Help Us’. We have investigated different emergency vehicles and their roles in aiding our helping heroes. We have called for the police, mountain rescue and an ambulance. Hatchmere have been very clear when talking on the phone explaining who they need and why. The children feel confident that, should they need too, they can call for help in an emergency. Well done, Hatchmere.
Hatchmere have been showing off their knowledge of number and confidently explain numberbonds to 5 with some to 10. We have also been showing off out addition skills during starter activities and I have enjoyed challenging the children to 1 more and 1 less than games.... they must listen carefully. Our bigger and smaller duck game is growing in popularity, I think it has been played every day this week. Excellent number work Hatchmere.
Our Drawing Club stimulus, The Pink Panther, was a huge hit this week! The children thought it was comical (focus vocabulary). We were excited to be invited to the Pink Panther’s party along as long as we also brought a friend whose initial sounds matched...Purple Panda, Black Bat, White Whale and Red Rabbit to name but a few. What a colourful party it will be.
Hatchmere have truly let their light shine this week by working collaboratively to solve the problem of the frozen chilli peas with kindness and curiosity, using confident and expressive voices to bring their reading to life, and showing courage and responsibility as they practised calling the emergency services to help others.
Have a gorgeous weekend.
